Major General Sumit Manawadu who suffered serious head injuries from a construction accident has succumbed to his wounds this morning.
He was initially admitted to the Army hospital and was later transferred to the National Hospital where a surgery was performed.
The Major General was appointed as the Deputy High Commissioner for Malaysia under the Rajapaksa regime.
It was Major General Manawadu who arrested the soldiers attached to former army commander General Sarath Fonseka when his presidential election defeat was announced in 2010.
He had also commanded to army officials who later arrested Mr. Fonseka in order to be brought before a court martial.
